Every day, a community WiFi network generates valuable aggregated information: which areas and times of day see the most connections, how long a session lasts, which packages people buy. ISPs already see part of this in their Streetwifi dashboard (traffic, concurrent unique users, peak hours and node health). Artificial intelligence can turn those patterns into decisions that increase revenue, without asking anything extra of users.
1. Ads that fit the place and the moment
The Streetwifi captive portal already supports campaigns from the ISP and from third-party advertisers. With AI, the portal could choose which campaign to show based on area, time and type of venue (a transit station at 8 a.m. is not the same as a park on a Saturday afternoon) and learn what works to improve over time.
One possible format is sponsored minutes: a brand gives users extra connection time in exchange for viewing its message. Users browse longer, the advertiser reaches an audience in a specific context, and the ISP gains a new revenue stream.
2. The right plan at the right time
When the free minutes run out, the portal offers data packages. A model could learn which packages sell in each area and time slot to highlight the most relevant one, or trigger promotions during off-peak hours to use idle capacity.
One principle we consider non-negotiable: prices and promotions are set by area and time, never by person.
Privacy first
At Streetwifi, technical browsing data is not linked to individuals. Any AI layer must work only with aggregated data and comply with each country’s regulations; in Chile, the new personal data protection law (Law 21.719).
Streetwifi also runs on each ISP’s own infrastructure. AI would be a separate layer that only receives aggregated information, without touching the operator’s network.
